May 13, (THEWILL) — The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has moved to strengthen international development cooperation following high-level discussions with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to advance partnerships in health, education, and social development across member countries.
The engagement took place during a visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, alongside the Head of Community Engagement and Polio Eradication at ADF, Ahmed Iya, to the IsDB headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The delegation was received by the Vice President (Operations) of the Islamic Development Bank, Rami Ahmad.
During the meeting, the Dangote Foundation highlighted its interventions and humanitarian programmes across Africa, particularly in healthcare delivery, nutrition support, education, poverty alleviation, and community empowerment initiatives.
According to the Foundation, its interventions have continued to create opportunities for social transformation through strategic investments targeted at improving health outcomes, promoting quality education, and expanding economic opportunities for vulnerable individuals and underserved communities.
The discussions also focused on possible areas of collaboration between both organisations, especially at a time when many developing countries are grappling with rising debt burdens, weak social infrastructure, and increasing pressure on public finances.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr Ahmad expressed optimism about the prospects of a productive partnership between the Islamic Development Bank and the Dangote Foundation, noting that several member nations of the bank are currently facing serious fiscal constraints that limit investments in human capital and livelihoods.
He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between development finance institutions and private philanthropic organisations in addressing social and economic challenges confronting vulnerable populations.
The proposed partnership is expected to explore joint interventions in healthcare, education, humanitarian support, and sustainable development initiatives across countries within the IsDB network, particularly in Africa, where poverty, healthcare access, and youth unemployment remain major concerns.
