June 26, (THEWILL) – Asa Asika, a music manager to David Adeleke, aka Davido, recently revealed that despite not having a degree, he pays monthly salaries of over a hundred staff.
The 32-year-old talent manager dropped out of university.
“Everyone’s story is different, everyone’s path is different, people always feel as if you have to go a certain way to get a certain goal”, he said in a recent interview.
“One of my companies pays 45 people’s salaries a month and that’s only one of the companies I run. If I do the maths, I probably pay about 100 people salaries a month and I have no degree”, he added.
Asika said he has no regret as most of his close friends earn peanuts despite being Ph.D holders.
“Without being condescending or trying to sound cocky, I have friends who have gone to school and have PhDs now and they are working a 9 to 5 and making peanuts.”
Asika has been managing Davido since 2012, although the duo fell out in 2013, they reconciled in 2017 and he has been managed by Asika from then till date.
Asika began his career at Storm 360, working at shows for his uncle, Obi Asika, when he was sixteen, until 2012, when his uncle and entertainment aficionado, Olisa Adibua, ended their partnership.
At Storm 360, he worked with Ikechukwu, EL Dee, Sasha P, Naeto C, and became talent manager to YQ and other clients including R2Bees and Davido.
In 2013, he founded his entertainment management company, StarGaze Management Company, after he split with Davido.
In 2014, he signed Naeto C, his cousin, Boj, a member of the musical group, DRB LasGidi, and Ayo Jay, to StarGaze Management Company.
In 2016, he founded The Plug Entertainment, a management firm. In 2017, he became Davido’s manager again, under The Plug Entertainment.
He is a recipient of several awards.
