DMO Opens July FGN Savings Bond Offer at 15.716%, Highest Interest Rate in 2026

July 7 (THEWILL) — The Debt Management Office (DMO) has opened subscriptions for the July 2026 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Savings Bond, offering investors annual returns of up to 15.716 percent, the highest rate since the beginning of the year.

The offer, announced on behalf of the Federal Government, is open for subscription from July 6 to July 10, 2026, with settlement scheduled for July 15.

The savings bond is designed to provide Nigerians with access to secure, government-backed investment opportunities.

The July offer comprises two instruments. A two-year FGN Savings Bond due July 15, 2028, offers an annual interest rate of 14.716 percent, while the three-year bond due July 15, 2029, offers 15.716 percent per annum.

Compared with the June 2026 issuance, both tenors recorded an increase of about 94 basis points, reflecting rising yields across Nigeria’s fixed-income market.

The bonds are priced at N1,000 per unit, with a minimum subscription of N5,000 and a maximum investment of N50 million. Interest will be paid quarterly, while the principal will be repaid in full at maturity.

The DMO said the savings bond programme is aimed at promoting financial inclusion, encouraging a savings culture, and providing Nigerians with safe and liquid investment options.

The bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government of Nigeria and qualify for tax exemptions under relevant provisions of the Companies Income Tax Act and Personal Income Tax Act.

The securities are also listed on the Nigerian Exchange, allowing investors to trade them on the secondary market. In addition, they qualify as liquid assets for banks and are recognised as eligible investment instruments for pension funds and trustees.

The higher yields are expected to attract strong demand from retail investors, cooperatives, and high-net-worth individuals seeking stable, sovereign-backed returns in Nigeria’s prevailing high-interest-rate environment.
