BEVERLY HILLS, February 08, (THEWILL) –Â A positive case of the Ebola virus has surfaced in North Kivu, a province in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Minister of Public Health, Mr. Eteni Longondo, made the disclosure on Congolese national television (RTNC) yesterday.
The patient, he said, was a woman and wife of a survivor of the recent Ebola virus disease in the Butembo health zone, located in North Kivu, and she first showed symptoms on February 1.
Samples taken from her went to the laboratory of the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) in Kinshasa and were found positive for Ebola.
He also confirmed the activation of the on-site response team in Butembo to trace the victim’s contacts.
The new case is worrying to the DRC that had announced in November the end of the 11th epidemic, which had left the zone hard hit.
