July 14, (THEWILL) — The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima, has summoned the contractor responsible for the Iziogo-Agbaja tunnel project to explain the slow pace of work and substandard delivery on the site.
Hon. Elechi issued the summons on Tuesday during a comprehensive assessment tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, aimed at ensuring alignment with the development vision of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
During the tour, the Commissioner commended the progress at the Nwezenyi flyover construction site, noting that the quality of work matches the administration’s goal of delivering durable infrastructure. However, the mood shifted at the Iziogo-Agbaja tunnel project, where the Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction and ordered the contractor to appear at the Ministry to account for the delays and poor workmanship observed.
The delegation also inspected the Onuenyim Bridge project, which the Commissioner described as a vital link that will enhance trade and foster interstate relations between Ebonyi and Benue states.
Other sites visited by the team included the internal roads at Oferekpe, the University of ICT, the ultra-modern building construction at the General Hospital in Oferekpe, the 12km Iziogo road, and the Ogbaga Randa Bridge.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s stance, Hon. Elechi emphasised that all contractors must adhere strictly to project specifications and agreed-upon timelines. He further warned that the state would not hesitate to recommend severe sanctions for any contractor failing to meet these standards.
Hon. Elechi was joined on the tour by key members of the monitoring team, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Engr. Chukwuma Nwiboko, and the Special Assistant, Hon. Ajah Philemon.
