The audited results, released on the Nigerian Exchange, show that the strong performance was driven by robust growth across both interest and non-interest income lines, alongside a significant rise in customer deposits.
Interest income rose 16 percent year-on-year to ₦3.19 trillion, supported largely by loans and advances to customers, which contributed ₦1.58 trillion. Overall, operating income grew by 20 percent to ₦3.7 trillion from ₦3.1 trillion in the previous year. Despite a 10 percent increase in operating expenses to ₦1.8 trillion, profit before impairment rose strongly, pushing operating profit up 31 percent to ₦1.92 trillion.
However, impairment charges surged by 47 percent to ₦707.5 billion, reflecting a cautious stance on credit risk. After accounting for these charges and contributions from associates, pretax profit settled at ₦1.21 trillion, while profit after tax stood at ₦914 billion.
On the balance sheet, total assets expanded to ₦49.6 trillion from ₦43.3 trillion. Customer deposits grew significantly to ₦36.4 trillion, up from ₦31.6 trillion, underscoring increased customer confidence. Total equity also strengthened to ₦4.1 trillion.
