September 05, (THEWILL) – The Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, has withdrawn the suit he filed against his principal, Godwin Obaseki.
Comrade Shaibu had approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, to seek protection from impeachment.
The court had granted Shaibu an order of interlocutory injunction, restraining the Inspector General of Police, State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, Speaker of Edo House of Assembly and the Chief Judge of Edo State or their agents from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing or preventing him from carrying out the functions of his office as Deputy Governor of Edo State, including attending State Executive Council meetings and other functions pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Shaibu asked the court to restrain the Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and the Chief Judge from “initiating impeachment proceedings or sanctioning any impeachment” against him.
However, following the intervention of party leaders among others in the ongoing feud between him and his principal, Shaibu said he is withdrawing the suit.
Meanwhile, activities at the Edo State Election Petitions Tribunals for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly were paralysed on Tuesday, following the ongoing two-day warning strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The Tribunal sitting at the State High Court in Benin City had scheduled judgements in two petitions for today.
Registrar at the court said all activities in the court have been adjourned until Thursday, in compliance with the NLC strike.
