
BEVERLY HILLS, January 24, (THEWILL) –Â The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has detained the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal following his indictment for fraud while he was in office.
THEWILL gathered that he is being investigated over a N200million weed cutting contract in Yobe State awarded by the defunct Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE), which was under the supervision of the office of the SGF, to a company, Global Vision Limited, where he served as a Director whist still holding public office.
A presidential panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had indicted the politician who is believed to be very close to the president.
Lawal arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 11am following an invitation. He was subsequently detained after interrogation which is expected to continue Thursday.
The Acting Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Sammin Ammadin confirmed Lawal’s detention.
