June 10, (THEWILL) – The whereabouts of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele remains a mystery as family members and close friends say he has not been seen nor reachable via telephone today. This is just as the Department of State Services (DSS) Saturday morning said in a tweet that he is not in its custody. “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS”.

In January, the DSS had sought to arrest Emefiele following the controversial naira redesign policy amongst others, sensationally accusing the suspended governor of financing terror amongst other allegations. President Muhammadu Buhari however intervened in the faceoff and directed the DSS to stand down.

President Bola Tinubu, who assumed office about two weeks ago, yesterday suspended Emefiele from office with immediate effect and appointed the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Folashodun Shonubi as Acting governor of the regulator bank.

At least two close associates of Emefiele said he is in the custody of the DSS despite denials by the agency. “They took him this morning to an undisclosed location,” one of the sources said.
