July 3 (THEWILL) — Enactus Nigeria has partnered with key public and private sector organisations to accelerate the commercialisation of locally developed engineering innovations aimed at addressing Nigeria’s development challenges.
The initiative, anchored on the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO), seeks to identify and nurture young engineering talents, helping them transform innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions with national impact.
The partnership includes the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Renaissance Africa Energy Company, and First Exploration and Petroleum Development Company.
Speaking on the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of Enactus Nigeria, Michael Ajayi, said the organisation remains committed to empowering young people to solve pressing societal challenges through entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.
According to him, Enactus works with forward-looking organisations to develop data-driven solutions that address real community needs while promoting entrepreneurial thinking.
As part of the competition, the University of Jos emerged third with FarmAnchor, a solar-powered, artificial intelligence-enabled device designed to help smallholder farmers detect crop pests, diseases and soil nutrient deficiencies using multispectral imaging and edge-based machine learning.
The team received a N20 million cash prize, in addition to engineering equipment valued at N50 million for its faculty.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Emmanuel Ajani said sustainable economic growth depends on a country’s ability to innovate, commercialise research and build technology-driven industries.
He noted that nations leading the global economy are distinguished not only by their natural resource endowments but by their capacity to transform research into market-ready products and competitive industries.
