August 09, (THEWILL) – A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and 14th Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has met with coup leaders in Niger Republic.
Sanusi was accompanied to the meeting by the Sultan of Damagaran in Niger.
The meeting is coming after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of African Union (AU), Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and a top US diplomat.
Although details of the meeting and its agenda was not immediately known as at the time of this report, THEWILL reports that the meeting is not unconnected with ongoing efforts by Nigeria to broker peace in Niger for diplomatic resolution of the ongoing political impasse in the country.
Earlier, a special delegation from Nigeria, led by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, to seek reinstatement of ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum, failed.
