March 20, (THEWILL) – Barely forty-eight hours after losing the senatorial seat of Enugu East to Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party (LP) and just 38 days after he was expelled by his party, former Governor of Enugu State, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, has formally withdrawn his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
THEWILL reports that the PDP had on February 10, expelled Nnamani from the party for anti-party activities.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, had said the decision was sequel to the recommendation of the National Disciplinary Committee and pursuant to Sections 58 and 59 (1)(g) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
He noted that the expulsion takes effect from Friday, February 10, 2023.
Nnamani had insisted he remained a member of the PDP and declared the decision to expel him null and void.
However, in a statement issued on Monday, Nnamani said he has consulted with his associates and constituents alike and has decided to quit the PDP on account of irreconcilable differences with the national leadership of the party.
He said he has moved on and hoped that his modest contributions to the development of his constituency will be the building blocks on which his successors can build.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation & Integration in Africa/NEPAD thanked Nigerians, especially the Ebeano political family and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead.
He reaffirmed his acquaintance with the President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and promised to continue to partner with him.
Nnamani expressed optimism that a Tinubu administration will promote good governance, rule of law and human rights in the interest of all Nigerians.
