August 02, (THEWILL) – Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president, Olumide Akpata, is gearing up to declare his intention to run for the governorship position of Edo State.
The legal luminary will make his intention known on August 20, in Benin City, Edo State.
Akpata will be contesting on the platform of the Labour Party. Ahead of his declaration, Akpata had joined the Labour Party in March and has been attending Ward meetings in Benin City to familiarize himself with the people of Edo State.
According to him, he got tired of complaining about Nigeria every day and bemoaning the state of the nation, which is why he has decided to contest and be part of the solution.
“Quite a number of people have called and messaged me to confirm the news currently making the rounds that I have joined a political party.
“Yes, I joined the Labour Party in March this year and on Sunday, I attended my first ward meeting at Oredo Ward 6, in Benin City, where I was formally introduced to members of the Ward and presented with my party membership card. This was a major step for me and not one that I took lightly.
“I simply got tired of complaining about Nigeria every day and bemoaning her fate and I decided to take the plunge and try to be part of the solution rather than agonising continually over the problem.
“This, for me, is the start of a very important journey and it is my prayer that I arrive safely at my destination,” he disclosed in a post on his Instagram handle.
