October 4, (THEWILL) – Bayelsa state government has been urged to boost its revenue base with investment in Lottery and other related schemes.
This, according to the United States of America based Lottery expert, Barr. Fred Dan Ifem, would assist the Governor Douye Diri-led Prosperity Administration in its drive to shore up the revenue base of the state.
Barr.Ifem, in his contribution to the economic growth of the state, at the just concluded Bayelsa Economic and Investment Summit themed, ‘Building towards a shared economic prosperity’, described mono-economy, especially total reliance on oil and gas sector, as factor responsible for dwindling economy confronting Nigeria as nation.
He said Bayelsa has no reason to grow its economy, noting the human and capital resources that abound in the State.
The lottery expert added lottery scheme is a money spinning business, hence the need for Bayelsa to take advantage of the opportunity that it affords.
According to him, Lagos and Imo states are benefitting immensely from the lottery scheme. The funds generated from the scheme is being used for Corporate Social Responsibility.
There is need for the leadership of the State to set Lottery Board to manage funds accrue from it for proper utilisation.
The scheme, aside boosting the state monthly IGR will create employment opportunity for the teeming youths in all the constitutionally recognised local government areas of the State.
