Fake News: Gov Yahaya Bello Denies Assassination Attempt

October 23, (THEWILL) – Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has refuted claims of an assassination attempt on his life.

THEWILL reported that the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo Bello, in a press statement issued on Sunday, claimed that Governor Bello escaped an assassination attempt on his way to an official engagement in Abuja.

Fanwo said the attackers, dressed in military uniforms, waylaid the Governor’s convoy and “started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy.

“The Kogi State Government wishes to inform the general public that there was an assassination attempt on the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, a few kilometres away from Abuja, on his way to an official engagement from Lokoja.

“The attack occurred at about 4pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

“The attackers who were dressed in military uniforms waylaid the Governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy. It took the swift intervention of the security personnel attached to the Governor to foil the satanic plans of the unknown soldiers.

“The attacks were at three different points, the last barricade being around Kwali, Federal Capital Territory, at about 4.20pm”, Fanwo claimed on Sunday.

But the Governor, in a post on Facebook Live on Sunday evening, denied any attempt on his life. He explained that there was a minor fracas between the military and the police attached to his convoy, but was resolved within five minutes

“Misguided elements will take this out of context. You are not doing me any favour by putting fake news out there, saying Governor Yahaya Belo escaped assassination when there was nothing of that nature.

“There was a minor fracas between the military and the police attached to my convoy. It was resolved within five minutes”, he said.
