June 8 (THEWILL) — FCMB Group Plc delivered a strong financial performance for the 2025 financial year, posting a profit before tax (PBT) of N202.1 billion, an 80.6 percent increase from N111.9 billion recorded in 2024, driven by robust growth in interest income and core banking operations.

According to the group’s audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, profit after tax rose significantly to N177.3 billion from N73.3 billion in the previous year, while gross earnings climbed 42.5 percent to N1.13 trillion.

FCMB’s earnings growth was largely underpinned by a record-breaking interest income performance. Interest income surged by 61.7 percent to N1.01 trillion, crossing the trillion-naira mark for the first time and accounting for nearly 89 percent of total gross earnings.

Net interest income more than doubled, rising by 124.6 percent to N505.9 billion from N225.3 billion in 2024.

Loans and advances to customers remained the largest contributor to interest income, generating N611.6 billion during the year.

The group also benefited from significantly higher returns on liquid assets, with interest income from cash and cash equivalents jumping to N145.3 billion from N12.8 billion a year earlier.

Investment securities contributed N248.4 billion, reinforcing overall earnings growth.

Fee-based income also strengthened, with net fee and commission income increasing by 30.4 percent to N76.7 billion.

Despite higher operating costs and impairment charges, FCMB maintained strong profitability.

Operating expenses increased across personnel, administrative, and other cost lines, while impairment losses nearly doubled to N81.7 billion. Nevertheless, operating profit rose by 79.2 percent to N200.9 billion.

On the balance sheet, total assets expanded to N7.63 trillion, while shareholders’ funds grew 21.4 percent to N835.4 billion.

Following the release of the results, FCMB’s share price gained 7.1 percent intraday to N12.00, reflecting positive investor sentiment toward the bank’s earnings performance and dividend proposal.
