May 10, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has shortlisted three Directors on Grade Level 17 in the Federal Civil Service, for the position of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).
According to PUNCH, the three directors being considered for the job were among the seven picked from a long list of 14 earlier cleared by anti-corruption agencies.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Folasade Yemi-Esan, had directed permanent secretaries to forward details of eligible directors on Grade 17 to her office on or before July 6, 2022.
Following the directive, 14 directors were shortlisted from the list of 20 names who applied for the position.
The names included Muhammad Murtala Saleh, Chizea Onochie Peter and Lydia Jafiya Shehu from the Office of the AGF.
Others are Bakre Modupe Julianah (Ministry of Police Affairs), Danladi Comfort Zakowi (NSCDC), Abah George Fidelis (Nigeria Im-migration), Omachi Raymond Omenka (Ministry of Interior), and lbrahim Saadiyya Jibo (National Boundary Commission).
Also shortlisted were Mohammed Aminu YarAbba (Federal Fire Service), Samuel A. Waziri (Ministry of Agric and Rural Development), Mahmud Adam Kambari (North East Development Commission), Mohammed Magaji M. Doho (Federal Ministry of Education), Mufutahu Bukolah (Federal Ministry of Transportation), and Yusuf Abdullahi Musa II (Fed. Min. Information and Culture).
From series of examination held, THEWILL gathered that only seven directors took part in the last stage of the examination, which was an oral interview on January 26, 2023.
At the end of the oral interview, three names were sent to President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Three names were sent to the President out of the seven directors who sat the examination but nothing has been heard so far. It is possible that the next President will be the one to announce”, a source familiar with the development told PUNCH.
The Director of Public Affairs in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Mohammed Ahmed, confirmed that the names of the shortlisted directors have been sent to President Buhari.
“The names are already with Mr President but I can’t confirm if it’s the next President that will choose. I can also assure you that there is no interference from anybody”, Ahmed confirmed.
Recall that the Federal Government had in July 2022, suspended the former AGF, Ahmed Idris, over alleged fraud. He is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged misappropriation of N109 billion.
