October 27, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has transferred Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), in Abuja, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Although the EFCC has not issued any official statement on the development, an official of the anti-graft agency confirmed that Emefiele was transferred to the agency last night from the DSS Custody in Abuja.
Emefiele had been in the custody of the DSS since his arrest on June 10, after President Bola Tinubu suspended him as CBN Governor on June 9, 2023.
The Federal Government had filed 20 charges bordering on alleged procurement fraud against the former apex bank chief along with a female CBN employee, Sa’adatu Yaro and her company, April1616 Investment Limited.
The charges came after a failed attempt by the DSS to rope Emefiele in an alleged firearms charges.
