October 07, (THEWILL) — The Rivers State Secretariat was engulfed by fire on Monday evening, destroying the sections housing the Rivers State Pensions Board.
Although no reason has been given for the inferno, some eyewitnesses suspected an electrical fault.
The Will reports that it took the efforts of both the state and federal fire services to combat the ravaging inferno.
The Rivers State Government is yet to issue a statement on the fire incident.
The incident comes amidst a threat by the governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, to punish civil servants involved in fraudulent activities during the six-month emergency rule in the state.
Also, THEWILL recalls that Fubara had dissolved the State Pensions Board a few days ago, with a further threat to probe the activities of the board during the emergency period.
