Fire Razes Plank Market In Lagos

November 01 (THE WILL) – A midnight fire, on Tuesday, destroyed several goods and property worth millions of naira at the popular Ladipo Plank Market in Amukoko, Iganmu Road, Orile, Lagos State.

Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, said the incident was reported at about 11:45pm.

Margaret said the combined efforts of firefighters from Sari Iganmu, Ajegunle, Ilupeju and Bolade stations of the agency, with complimentary help from the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA, successfully put out the fire.

“The fire rapidly spread because of the combustible materials involved, which include inflammatory wood polish and given the dryness of the season. It, however, met the competency of the firefighters.

“The cause of the fire cannot be immediately ascertained but will be revealed after the mop-up of the exercise. That is, at the dampening down stage along with an enumeration of the property and cost.

“No casualty has been recorded in this operation as further detail will subsequently be made known,” she said.
