April 17, (THEWILL) — Flutterwave has convened a high-level roundtable on Africa’s digital economy, bringing together global investors, policymakers, and development institutions on the sidelines of the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
Held in partnership with Invest Africa on April 14, 2026, the session focused on unlocking investment, strengthening infrastructure, and accelerating cross-border growth across the continent’s rapidly expanding digital landscape.
The dialogue featured key stakeholders including Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, alongside senior representatives from Afreximbank, Bank of America, Citibank, and other global institutions.
Participants assessed the current investment climate and identified priorities for scaling Africa’s digital economy.
Discussions centred on three major themes: expanding digital infrastructure across borders, harmonising fintech regulations, and mobilising long-term capital.
Flutterwave executives highlighted the company’s evolution from a payments connector to a broader financial infrastructure platform supporting businesses across Africa.
Speaking at the session, Chief Legal and Public Policy Officer, Bankole Falade, outlined the vision of building a “payments superhighway” to connect African markets and integrate them with the global economy.
He also advocated for “regulatory passporting” to ease cross-border expansion and reduce entry barriers for fintech firms.
Participants emphasised that while Africa presents a compelling long-term investment opportunity estimated at $1.5 trillion scaling across borders remains critical to unlocking its full potential.
There was also growing consensus that investors are increasingly prioritising execution and scalability over narrative.
The roundtable reflects a broader shift toward practical collaboration, with stakeholders calling for stronger regulatory alignment, improved data systems, and sustained reforms to attract capital and drive inclusive digital growth across the continent.
