
April 16, (THEWILL) – The immediate former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has won the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the November 11 gubernatorial election in the State.
The former Bayelsa governor scored 52,061 votes to win the ticket, beating 5 other aspirants.
The five other aspirants include David Pereworimini Lyon; Festus Daumiebi Sunday; Prof Ongoebi Etebu Maureen; Ogomade Isikima Johnson and Joshua Maciver.
Announcing the result at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa, the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Maj. Gen. A. T. Jibrin, said Sylva secured 52,061 to beat his closest rival, Machiver, who got 2,078 votes.
Festus Danumiebi secured 557 votes, Prof. Etebu, 1,277 votes, Lyon, 1,584 votes and Mrs Isikima Johnson scored 584 votes.
The committee chairman thanked all stakeholders in the state for the peaceful conduct of the governorship primary election.
In his acceptance speech, Sylva solicited the support of other contestants in order to secure victory for the APC.
Represented by Sunny Goli, a member of the House of Representatives, Sylva said: “Lets us work together as a family to win the Bayelsa governorship election on Nov. 11, 2023”
