September 05, (THEWILL) – Comedian, Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, better known as Destalker, has accused some of his senior colleagues including Godwin Komone, aka Gordons and Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, of working against him.
Speaking about the incident while he was a guest on The Honest Bunch podcast with media personality and broadcaster, Chinedu Emmanuel Ani, also known as Nedu, Destalker revealed that his growth as a comedian has been intentionally held back because he doesn’t believe in godfatherism.
The comedian mentioned Gordons and Basketmouth as the people who are against his growth.
He added that he had a show and didn’t get sponsors. Once he talks to a sponsor, they would promise to speak with his senior colleagues. Once they speak with his senior colleagues, they would discourage those sponsors.
Speaking further, he revealed that someone called him one day and told him to beg Basketmouth.
He added that the issue he had with Basketmouth started in 2015, after he got an invitation to be on the set of ‘Flatmate’, a sitcom, started by Basketmouth and movie producer, Kayode Peters.
A lady called him around 1 am to be on the set of ‘Flatmate’ by 10 am, but he was surprised as he hadn’t shown interest in being part of the sitcom.
Destalker revealed that he didn’t promise to be on location as his discussion with the lady was not concluded.
However, he got a call from the same lady the next day and was asked if he was still coming to the location, and he replied no.
Later, he was accosted by a colleague, who told him that he was too proud because Basketmouth invited him to the location and he refused to show up.
When Nedu asked if he had attempted to make peace with Basketmouth, Destalker revealed that he tried on two occasions, but Basketmouth did not give room for reconciliation and didn’t care to listen to his own side of the story.
“How can I win best comedian for five years and organise a show without sponsor?
“Not that we didn’t write proposals, there are companies that agreed to put in but they’d say ‘I will talk to some of your senior colleagues’, that’s my problem.
“There are senior colleagues that have struck my name out in several ways. One, I don’t like godfatherism. I know my enemies. I have been begging Gordons.
“Somebody called me one day and asked what I had with Basketmouth. I said nothing. He said, ‘Go and beg him’.
“Your dream is to become successful, some people’s dream is to make sure you are not successful. When you’re not successful, they’ve achieved a goal”, he said.
