December 14, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has thrown his weight behind Governor Hyacinth Alia’s efforts to bolster security in Benue State.
Inuwa, speaking as the special guest of honour at the launch of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard in Makurdi, praised the initiative as a bold and innovative approach to tackling insecurity. The event also marked the commissioning of 100 operational vehicles and 600 combat motorcycles for security agencies.
The ceremony, held in the Benue State capital, drew dignitaries from across the country, including representatives of the Federal Government and Northern states.
Representing the collective stance of the Northern Governors, Yahaya commended Governor Alia for prioritizing security, a fundamental requirement for fostering economic growth and development.
“Security is paramount; without it, nothing can thrive. We are proud to support this initiative, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing insecurity nationwide. With determination, collaboration, and the support of all stakeholders, this project will undoubtedly yield remarkable results,” Inuwa said.
The NSGF Chairman assured Benue residents of the forum’s unwavering solidarity and emphasized the need for unity to confront threats to peace and stability in the region.
Alia, in his remarks, reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He outlined the objectives of the Civil Protection Guard, which include enhancing local security and supporting law enforcement efforts across Benue State.
The Tor Tiv, Prof. Ortese Iorzua James Ayatse, commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his exemplary leadership as NSGF Chairman. He also acknowledged the contributions of Northern Governors in fostering collaboration and regional harmony.
President Bola Tinubu was represented at the event by his Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
Other notable attendees included Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Inspector General of Police, represented by DIG Operations.
The event culminated in the inauguration of 5,000 officers of the Benue Civil Protection Guards, the donation of specialized vehicles and motorcycles to security agencies, and the launch of the ‘Anyan Nyor’ Joint Security Task Force, a strategic initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in Benue State.
