December 07, (THEWILL) — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has urged Nigerians to refrain from politicising issues of insecurity, warning that the threat of banditry affects every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation.
The governor gave the warning on Saturday during a special prayer session organised to seek divine intervention following the recent infiltration of armed bandits into parts of the state.
The event, held at the Government House, brought together 4,444 Qur’an memorizers (Huffaz), who recited the Holy Qur’an and offered prayers for lasting peace.
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was in attendance alongside senior government officials, clerics and community leaders.
Yusuf stressed that insecurity should never be viewed through a partisan lens, calling for unity and collective resolve to confront the menace.
“Insecurity does not know politics or party affiliations. This is why everyone, regardless of their leanings, must join hands to fight the monster of banditry. We want to see everybody working together to free Kano,” he said.
He noted that his administration has equipped security agencies with operational tools and maintains regular communication with them to address emerging needs promptly.
The governor assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working round the clock to safeguard Kano and its neighbouring communities.
He described the mass prayer session as a major spiritual effort that transcends financial considerations, adding that such initiatives should be appreciated by every well-meaning citizen.
Yusuf reiterated his commitment to working closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders and stakeholders to restore and sustain peace across the state.
In his remarks, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II commended the government’s approach, noting that infrastructural development in rural areas would significantly strengthen security response.
“I have seen, while in Faruruwa Community in Shanono Local Government Area, that the government is constructing road networks in rural communities. This will make it easier for security operatives to respond swiftly to distress calls,” the Emir said.
He urged the governor to sustain the infrastructural drive, particularly by ensuring that all local governments are connected through functional road networks.
Such linkages, he noted, would ease mobility for residents and enhance overall security coverage.
The Emir reaffirmed the full support of the Emirate Council, pledging continued cooperation with the government to restore Kano’s reputation as a centre of peace, harmony and commerce.
The prayer session drew Islamic scholars, Qur’an reciters and participants from all 44 local government areas, united in seeking divine protection and an end to insecurity in the state.
