January 14, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched an ambitious initiative to distribute free school uniforms to 796,092 pupils across 7,092 public schools in the state.
The governor officially kicked off the programme on Tuesday at the Government House, Kano, as part of efforts to improve access to education and ease financial burdens on families.
Speaking during the launch, Yusuf highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Kano has access to quality education.
He called on parents and guardians to make the most of the initiative by ensuring their children attend school regularly.
He said, “This initiative is aimed at reducing the financial challenges faced by families and encouraging pupils to remain in school,” he said.
“The provision of free school uniforms will not only boost the morale of our pupils but also enhance the teaching and learning process in public schools across the state.”
The governor noted that the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to address the issue of out-of-school children in Kano State.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to training teachers and ensuring the availability of teaching and learning materials.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, praised the programme, describing it as a significant step toward improving the education sector in Kano.
In his address, Makoda commended teachers for their dedication and encouraged them to continue supporting the government’s vision for quality education.
“Our ministry has made remarkable progress in training personnel and ensuring the timely supply of teaching materials.
“By prioritizing education, this administration is empowering the next generation with the tools needed to succeed and make meaningful contributions to society,” Madoka stated.
The distribution of free uniforms is expected to inspire thousands of pupils across Kano and encourage increased school enrollment in the state, further addressing the challenges of illiteracy and school dropouts.
