May 14, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, on Tuesday launched a Small Scale Business Monthly Startup grant of N50,000 to some 5,600 women from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

Launching the programme at the Government House Kano, Yusuf said the programme is aimed at boosting the economic status of the beneficiaries.

According to him, the economic well-being of the women, depend largely on small scale businesses in view of the huge role the ventures play in the growth of the state’s economy.

He said because of this fact, the sum of N50,000 each was given to some selected 100 women from 36 Local Government Areas and to 200 women each from the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas of the state, totaling 5,600 women, whom would get a total of N260 million monthly.

The Governor said the monthly gesture would be sustained for four years of the administration to enable the Government remove substantial percentage of Indigent beneficiaries from poverty.

He said a Compliance Committee to oversee the disbursement of the money had been set up and was charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the money reached the intended beneficiaries.

Members of the committee, he said, included women councillors, women party leaders, Kwankwasiyya women leaders and the Chairmen of 44 Local Governments in the state.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously to enhance their economic status, warning that those who benefitted from the first instalment of the grant would not be among those to benefit in the next round of the programme.
