May 18, (THEWILL) — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has intervened in the dispute between Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South, and Alhassan Rurum, a member of the House of Representatives for Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya.
The reconciliation came just after the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state announced the conclusion of its senatorial and House of Representatives primary elections.
Shortly after the reconciliation, Senator Sumaila said the dispute was the “handiwork of Satan” and that they had now forgiven and forgotten their differences.
“We are one family, and what unites us is more than politics; we have family ties and other relationships beyond imagination. What happened was a misunderstanding, and we have resolved the differences, and it is indeed the devil’s work”, the lawmaker stated.
In his remarks, Rurum also noted that the dispute had been settled, and that they had now reunited as one family and were working together more than ever before.
Rurum thanked the governor for his efforts in bringing lasting peace between them.
The Governor had summoned the meeting to resolve the differences between the two political gladiators in the southern part of the State to ensure the victory of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the APC has concluded its primaries in the state, with 20 of the 24 House of Representatives seats decided by consensus, while direct primaries were held for the remaining 4 seats.
Both APC senators, Barau Jibrin for Kano North and Kawu Sumaila for Kano South, retained their tickets following reconciliation talks.
Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor, was also handed the party’s ticket to contest for Kano Central.
Speaking, the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, urged supporters to put past disagreements behind them and work together to secure victory for the party at all levels.
