April 08, (THEWILL) — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has vowed to squarely address the water scarcity facing some parts of the state, just as he embarked on an inspection tour of all state water treatment plants.
This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, in Kano.
Muhammad said the inspection visit was to assess the condition of the water treatment plants and explore solutions to the problem of inadequate water supply being experienced in some parts of the state.
According to him, the tour is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure the provision of adequate and safe drinking water to the populace.
The Governor was accompanied by Commissioners and representatives of CGC, a Chinese Company with vast experience in solving perennial water supply issues, which will forward feasibility studies on how to solve the problems once and for all.
The statement said the Governor began the inspection with the Tamburawa treatment plant, where he inspected key components of water treatment facilities, including water treatment machines, distribution pipelines, and other essential equipment, with a view to identifying issues hindering their optimal performance.
Some of the problems identified during the exercise included leaking of water from the pipes, malfunction of some machinery, while some were found obsolete, which the Governor promised to address.
Addressing journalists after the inspection, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rehabilitating all malfunctioning parts of the water treatment plants and improving their operations to ensure effective water supply to the people.
He further stated that as part of efforts to address the challenge, the State Government would collaborate with CGC, a Chinese firm with expertise in water supply systems, to strengthen the delivery of clean, safe, and adequate potable water to all residents of the state.
He emphasised that the partnership formed a critical component of the administration’s broader strategy to revitalise water infrastructure, improve public health, and ensure sustainable access to safe drinking water for all citizens.
The Governor also emphasised that the provision of clean and safe drinking water remains a top priority of his administration, assuring that no effort would be spared in ensuring that every citizen has access to quality water.
