April 01, (THEWILL) – The Northern Elders Political Development Group has commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to improving security across states in the Northwest.
The group’s secretary, Adamu Lawal Giwa, also lauded the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for their collaborative efforts with security agencies in tackling banditry and other criminal activities in the region.
According to the group, most towns and villages in the Northwest observed the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations peacefully without the usual incidents of bandit attacks, except for isolated cases of unrest in some parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states.
“The improved security in the Northwest has significantly reduced challenges associated with travel and trade, particularly along major routes such as Sokoto-Gusau-Kano,” the group stated.
It further noted that the military’s operations had led to a decline in large-scale attacks and kidnappings, especially in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security measures under *Fansa Yamma* have yielded positive results, reducing cases of abductions and violent attacks by bandits in many villages. The military’s strategy of taking the fight to the enclaves of the bandits has been a major achievement,” the statement added.
The group commended Matawalle for his continuous support of the armed forces, which it said had boosted the morale of troops in their fight against insurgency. It also acknowledged the leadership of General Musa in coordinating military operations to restore peace in the region.
“Though we are not entirely out of the woods, the improvements in security show that we are on the right track,” the group stated, pledging continued support for President Tinubu’s administration in ensuring lasting peace in the region.
