November 20, (THEWILL) — A Coalition of Youth Groups for Peace and Stability in Zamfara State has urged Governor Dauda Lawal to focus on governance amidst the worsening security situation in the state.
The chairman of the coalition, Hon. Maidamma Maigadaje Dangulbi, made the appeal while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Sokoto
Dangulbi criticised the governor for allegedly abandoning the state despite its escalating security challenges, accusing him of being preoccupied with political issues instead of addressing urgent governance needs.
“2027 is still far. Governor Lawal needs to devote his full attention to good governance. The state needs more infrastructure and essential services, especially in rural areas where people are struggling with poverty, insecurity, and health challenges”, he said.
He added that security operatives in the state were not receiving the required support, noting that “sometimes they cannot even gain access to the governor for intelligence sharing.”
Dangulbi expressed concern over the surge in bandit attacks and kidnappings across Tsafe, Maru, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, especially during the rainy season, alleging that the governor’s absence had worsened the situation.
The coalition, however, commended troops of Operation Hadarin Daji for their recent operations, which helped secure some communities despite what it described as inadequate backing from the state government.
