BEVERLY HILLS, May 13, (THEWILL) – Gunmen on Wednesday night, attacked the Bende Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
A reliable security source told THEWILL that a policeman, who was shot in the leg during the attack, is currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
The police station, the source said, was also razed down by the gunmen who also set some detainees free.
The incident was said to have sent the people of the area into panic as the event that lasted for an hour had gunshots renting the air.
Two vehicles, three motorcycles and a generator house in the vicinity were burnt by the attackers.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident
Ogbonna, who debunked reports about the death of police and arms being carted away, said he was yet to know if the gunmen freed suspects under detention at the police station.
