April 08, (THEWILL) – Gunmen have reportedly attacked a military checkpoint in Aba, Abia State.
An anonymous resident source in the area, said the incident happened on Friday morning, along Tonimas junction, Enugu/Igweocha Expressway around 3:30am
The source, who could not ascertain casualty situation of the incident, however, disclosed that the gunmen set military patrol vehicles on fire.
THEWILL recalls that separatists group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had declared today, Friday April 8, a sit-at-home day in solidarity with their embattled leader as he appears before Justice Binta Nyako this Friday.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have barricaded all roads leading to the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja, ahead of the resumed trial of Nnamdi Kanu.
The DSS is believed to have barricaded the roads to tighten security around the court premises.
But a new ‘practice directives’ issued on Thursday evening by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, ordered a secret trial of all terrorism cases.
Kanu, is expected to appear in court before Justice Binta Nyako, to resume the 15-count charge bordering on terrorism and felony, levelled against him by the Nigerian government.
To this end, Kanu’s trial may be shifted to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), in line with the practice directives issued on Thursday.
Justice Nyako is expected to rule on Kanu’s fundamental human rights suit against the Federal Government.
