March 22, (THEWILL) – The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the results of last Saturday’s governorship and House of assembly in the State, as unacceptable and won’t stand.
The Director of the Governorship Campaign Council, Dr. Cletus Tyokyaa, was reacting to the declaration of Revd Fr Hycinth Alia of the APC by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the winner of the election.
He accused what he described as ‘high powers in some quarters’ of collaborating with security agencies to rig the PDP out of the election.
“These election results did not reflect the will of the people of Benue State as the exercise was not transparent,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to the PDP supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as leaders of the party will soon come out with a statement on the next line of action.
In a related development, House of Representatives candidate for Jechira Federal constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Tsar Imborivungu, has dragged INEC before the National Assembly Election Tribunal for Benue State, urging it to conduct a fresh election into the constituency.
The petitioner also joined All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate-elect, Mr Sesoo Akpagher, in the petition.
The Petitioner alleged that INEC conducted the election in the constituency on February 21, 2023, but failed to include the party Logo of ADC on the ballot papers used for the exercise.
In the petition, Counsel to the petitioner, Barr D.O. Penda, urged the Tribunal to order INEC to include the Logo of his client’s party on the ballot paper and to conduct a fresh election to enable his client to participate and claim his mandate, as no date was fixed for hearing of the matter.
