February 19, (THEWILL) – His Eminence, Shehu of Borno, Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al-Amin Elkanemi, has warned businessmen in the state to desist from hoarding food and other essential commodities.
Shehu stated this at a colloquium, which was part of the events to commemorate the first Kanem Borno Cultural Summit held in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, at the weekend.
He said such an act is not in the good character of the people of the Kanem Borno Empire extraction, stressing that respect for humanity is a symbol of the empire.
He warned against hoarding food stuff and reducing the size of commodities.
“Allah (God) is not happy with those who intentionally want to inflict suffering or hardship on others.
“To this end, I urge you to stop hoarding food items and other commodities in this critical economic situation because that is not in our culture,” Shehu said.
He urged the Federal Government to engage the youths in both Islamic and Western education as well as mechanised agriculture and innovation skills.
Also speaking, Babagana Kingibe, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the summit has created a platform for Kanuris to promote their cultural identity to the world.
Kingibe also prayed for the restoration of peace and security in the Borno and Chad Basin areas.
The events brought Kunuris/Kunuri leaders from all the once dominated/ruled areas of the Kanem Borno Empire, including the Republics of Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Libya and Central Africa, among others, together.
