BEVERLY HILLS, January 07, (THEWILL) – The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, says it has concluded plans to visit justice on all those alleged to have perpetrated violence and uttered hate speeches during the 2015 general elections, assuring that they would not go unpunished.
Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Bem Angwe declared that those who made hate speeches that are capable of destroying democracy as well as plunging the country into turmoil would also not escape punishment.
Angwe, who spoke in Abuja while receiving the Executive Director of the Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights, CASER, Frank Tietie, stressed that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and that the commission would do everything within its power to ensure that the rights of Nigerians are not only recognized but are also respected.
His words, “I want to let you know that the commission has secured the financial support of some development partners to begin the investigation of persons who participated in violent acts in the 2015 general elections. I also want to let you know that the commission has set up a special investigation panel to investigate all those persons who are found to have made hate speeches that are capable of throwing this country into turmoil.”
