April 05, (THEWILL) – The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Areas Commission (HYPPADEC), is to train youths in 36 critical job areas, as part of its intervention programme to get youths to acquire skills and create jobs.
According to the Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, who stated this in Jos during the flag off of the HYPPADEC youth transformation programme in Plateau State.
350 youths are to be trained in each of the catchment states of the Commission to acquire skills in vocations that include carpentry and welding as critical aspects of a modern economy.
Yelwa said the Commission is embarking on the programme to reduce youth unemployment and expand the absorbent potential of the economy through job creation and availability of skills and expertise.
He said the Commission has been keen about the role of youth groups and vigilantes in strengthening the security presence in the States covered by the Commission, and revealed that the Commission has offered logistics assistance such as motorbikes to facilitate the operations of vigilantes in the region.
The flag off event, Yelwa explained, was facilitated by its technical collaborators as the New Alliance, and identified the catchment states to include Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue.
