July 06, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer, Abbey Toyyib Elias, professionally known as Skiibii, has opened up about the controversy that trailed his rumoured death in 2015.

In August 2015, news about the death of the singer went viral. He was said to have slumped and passed on. Pictures of the singer on the floor of what appeared to be a living room also went viral on social media.

However, it was later revealed that the singer was alive and well. He was hugely criticised for faking his own death just to gain popularity.

Speaking about the incident in an interview with media personality, Adesope Olajide, also known as Shopsydoo, Skiibii revealed that he can never fake his own death to gain fame.

He revealed that he was battling a condition that frequently caused him to lose consciousness.

“At that time, I had that issue for real, I black out normally. So, that happened to me like twice on the plane to South Africa. I went to the bathroom and on my way back I just fell down.

“They had to shut down the plane and attend to me first before we could fly that day.

“The second one happened in Kcee’s house. So, this particular one happened when I went to Surulere to greet my brother and on my way out, I just fell down. People saw them rushing me out and everyone was like Skiibii is dead.

“I had to go to America for treatment. When I left the hospital, I checked my phone, I was seeing rest in peace, and Wizkid posted my picture on his page. I still remember Wizkid’s caption.

“I was crying seeing all those things. I was going through real life and people were bashing me, that was so crazy. I don’t like talking about the problem I had then.

“Everywhere was on fire, people saying I faked my death to blow. I just stopped talking about it. Let people think what they want,” has stated.
