Inuwa Waya

November 20, (THEWILL) — A former APC governorship candidate in Kano State, Alhaji Inuwa Waya, has said that he will not contest for the governorship position in the 2027 general elections.

Waya announced this while speaking to journalists in Kano, shortly after a strategic meeting with his inner circle of campaign advisors.

He explained that his decision not to run in 2027 was based on personal reflection and a desire to contribute to the state’s progress “from other angles”, and that he would continue to support initiatives that promote unity and good governance in the state.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to remaining in the APC, adding, however, that he is open to forming alliances with credible individuals and groups both within and outside the party.

The former APC governorship candidate said collaboration and unity would be essential for the APC to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reflecting on the party’s loss in the 2023 elections, Waya attributed the defeat to poor leadership, a lack of a coordinated campaign strategy, and internal miscalculations that weakened the party’s chances, ultimately leading to the NNPP’s victory in the state.

He emphasised that the APC and its members must learn from these mistakes to avoid repeating the failures of 2023.

According to him, genuine reforms, internal discipline, and strategic planning are necessary for the party to regain public trust and return to winning ways.

Moving forward, Waya said his focus is to support efforts aimed at rebuilding the party and fostering unity among its stakeholders.

He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his “giant strides” in infrastructure and social development across the state.

He, therefore, urged the governor to sustain the ongoing development projects for the benefit of the people of the state, stressing that progress should be above partisan differences.

Abdullahi Yusuf is a seasoned journalist, communicator and was previously the Deputy Editor-In-Chief and Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Jos, where he retired on December 15, 2021
