September 05, (THEWILL) — The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday launched Gateway Shield, a tech-driven safety and intelligence platform designed to give Ogun State residents swift access to police services during emergencies, especially in situations where reaching a station may be difficult.
The initiative, conceived by the IGP, is part of his drive to modernise Nigeria’s policing system through technology, data use, and citizen engagement.
Unveiling the digital app in Abeokuta, Egbetokun described Gateway Shield as a practical tool to make police operations more responsive to the public.
“This is not just an app; it is a lifeline. We are leveraging smart technology to eliminate barriers between the public and the police, ensuring that help is always within reach,” he said.
Available on the Play Store under the name Gatewayshield and via the website wwww.thegatewayshield.com, the platform connects users directly with the Ogun State Police Digital Centre.
It also provides a toll-free emergency line, 08000009111, that links callers to bilingual agents trained to process complaints and coordinate responses from the nearest police unit.
The IGP explained that users can report incidents, track safety trends, and receive rapid interventions across issues such as violent crimes, traffic violations, property disputes, and emergencies.
He added that the system is powered by a 24/7 solar-enabled facility, operated by trained IT personnel.
“With Gateway Shield, Ogun State becomes a model for citizen-centred security, driven by innovation and anchored on trust,” Egbetokun said.
He recalled that earlier in 2025, the Force deployed Armoured Personnel Carriers to strengthen operational readiness in the state, following the commissioning of its modern headquarters in 2024, with a pledge to transform the Ogun Command into a smart policing hub.
