SAN FRANCISCO, May 30, (THEWILL) – Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha has demolished the Akachi Tower, one of the controversial towers built by his predecessor, Owele Rochas Okorocha.
The demolition, Ihedioha’s first action as Governor, following his assumption of office 24 hours ago, has been received with mixed reactions.
The Akachi tower, a gigantic tower with a hand at the top, implying the hand of God, was built on a land previously used as a dumpsite. It is now a tourist site mainly for religious activities.
The monument is one of the many controversial monuments built by Okorocha. It is however not clear whether the others would be mowed down.
The Akachi tower was one of the things commissioned by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to the state a few days back.
There are fears that the new governor will also demolish other monuments in Owerri, the state capital, especially the famous statues.
