
November 13, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, as winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
The INEC’s Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, declared Diri winner and returned elected on Saturday, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, after he polled 175,196 votes to beat his closest challenger, former Minister of state for Petroleum and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, who scored 110, 108 votes.
THEWILL reports that INEC cleared 16 candidates for the election, but Diri and Sylva were the top challengers.
While total number of registered voters was 1,570,862, total accredited votes was 372,000.
