
March 01, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Certificate of Return to the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima.
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation on Wednesday afternoon, at the International Conference Center (ICC), Abuja.
The presentation comes hours after Tinubu was declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
THEWILL reports that the Chief Returning Officer of the election, who doubled as Chairman of the INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday morning, declared Tinubu of the APC, winner of the polls.
Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to beat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 6,984,520, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who secured 6,101,533 votes.
However, in his speech after receiving the Certificate of Returns, the President-elect appealed to his fellow contestants in Saturday’s polls, to work with him.
He extends hands of fellowship, peace and collaboration to Atiku, Peter Obi, other presidential aspirants and their supporters.
Tinubu restates commitment to his renewed hope of making a new Nigeria.
Dignitaries at the event included Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Service Chiefs including the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba among others.
