SAN FRANCISCO, February 06, (THEWILL) – On a day Nigerians took to the streets in protest over the biting difficulties in the land, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that he and President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently on vacation in the UK, have loudly and clearly heard the cries of Nigerians about their sufferings.
Speaking while opening a Private Sector Forum on Monday at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Osinbajo promised that the present administration would ensure that all Nigerians get a fair deal.
Admitting that the country is in what he called a serious economic situation, he stated that while President Muhammadu Buhari had acknowledged it, he himself saw the hardships first hand while going round the country.
The Acting President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande quoted his principal as however assuring Nigerians that help is surely on the way, adding that President Buhari had stated that “I know what it is like when salary is not enough”.
Nigerians in their hundreds on Monday thronged the streets to join the #IStandWithNigeria protest against unfavourable economic policies of the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC government despite 2Face’s last minute cancellation of the planned protest initiated by him.
In video clips trending on the internet, many of the protesters appeared angry and wasted no time in voicing their anger and dissatisfaction with the crippling condition of the country and government’s handling of the situation.
Popular personalities like, Charles Oputa, alias Charly Boy, publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, and comedian, Seyi Law, joined the #IStandWithNigeria protest against the Buhari government in Lagos.
As at 9.00 on Monday morning, the protesting groups have converged on the National Stadium from where they marched to other parts of Lagos in demonstration.
Some 500 people gathered at the National Stadium in Lagos, holding signs including “The unemployed are hungry and angry” and “I will not be silent”.
The protesters then marched through the streets to the rhythm of drums and trumpets, singing “enough is enough”.
