BEVERLY HILLS, March 17, (THEWILL) – Former US First Lady, Michelle Obama, has reacted to the claim of racism by the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle saying that it “wasn’t a complete surprise”.
THEWILL writes that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, had accused the royal family of racism.
Reacting, in an interview with Jenna Bush Hager on NBC’s ‘Today’ show, Michelle Obama stated that she “was not surprised” by the couple’s recollections about remarks made about the possible colour of her unborn son’s skin.
The former First Lady also stated that she believes it would be “a teachable moment for us all” as she prayed “for forgiveness and healing” for the royal family.
“This, first and foremost, is a family. I pray for forgiveness for them so that they can use this as teachable moment for us all,” Michelle said.
“Race isn’t a new construct in this world for people of colour, and so it wasn’t a complete surprise to hear her feelings and to hear them articulated.”
