March 16, (THEWILL) — A coordinated team of joint security personnel including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Aviation Security, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other local security outfits has arrested four suspected bandits within the vicinity of Akure Airport in Ondo State.
A statement issued Sunday evening by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection for FAAN, Henry Agbebire, noted that the operation was successfully executed through a coordinated effort involving aviation and local security agencies.
According to Agbebire, the arrests followed a distress alert reporting that suspicious individuals had been sighted behind the airport perimeter moving toward the Eleyewo community.
In response, security personnel and local security outfits immediately launched a joint search operation. During the exercise, Agbebire noted that some individuals were seen attempting to flee the area.
He said, “Four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team and have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation” .
He commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, the police, and local security groups, including Amotekun and community vigilantes, whose joint efforts led to the arrest.
He further added that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and with the support of the Presidency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has accelerated the provision of modern perimeter fencing and enhanced security infrastructure at airports across the country.
“Work has already commenced in phases to ensure that airports under FAAN are better secured against unlawful access and other security threats”
“FAAN reassures the travelling public and airport host communities of its unwavering commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all airport facilities nationwide”, he added.
The authority emphasized that these security measures are part of a broader strategy to fortify the nation’s aviation hubs against potential threats.
