November 13, (THEWILL) – Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, has praised Governor Abba Yusuf for earmarking 31 per cent of the state’s 2025 budget to education.
In a statement by the university’s Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations, Abdullahi Abdullahi, the VC described the allocation as remarkable, noting that it surpasses UNESCO’s recommended 25 per cent benchmark for education spending globally.
“This is unique as it has never happened before in Nigeria’s history. It even exceeds the UNESCO requirement of 25 per cent, showing a strong commitment to educational advancement,” he said.
Yakasai further applauded Yusuf’s education policies, particularly the declared state of emergency in the sector, and called on stakeholders to rally behind the initiative to achieve meaningful progress.
The vice chancellor also commended the governor’s recent approval for the renovation of Dangote Hostel, which was damaged by fire, noting that contractors are now back on site to complete the project.
“Significantly, we appreciate his approval for the settlement of staff allowances, particularly earned allowances, funding for the NUC accreditation exercise, and the construction of drainages on campus,” Yakasai stated.
He also appealed to the governor to provide any available facilities within Kano as a City Campus for the university.
THEWILL recalls that the governor while presenting the 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly, allocated the largest share—N168.35 billion, or 31 per cent—to the education sector.
