November 16, (THEWILL) – Kano State Government has advised people in the state to remain calm and avoid acts capable of causing breach of the peace as the Court of Appeal Court delivers judgement tomorrow in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP against the judgement of the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
A statement issued to newsmen in Kano by the state Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, on Thursday, said the advice became necessary “as some may take advantage of the situation and cause breach of the peace.”
Dantiye issued the statement ahead of tomorrow’s verdict on the governorship appeal by the Court of Appeal Court in Abuja, stressing the need for people to maintain the peace for the development of the state and the country.
He also called on security agencies “to double their efforts in ensuring that law and order are maintained as well as ensure full protection of lives and property of the citizens in the state.
The appeal court had reserved judgment in the appeal by Governor Abba Yusuf of the state, who is challenging his removal by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal on September 20 nullified Yusuf’s election by declaring 165, 663 of his votes invalid.
Our Correspondent reports that the impending judgement has generated tension among both supporters of the NNPP and the APC, with the party faithful resorting to prayers to God to give them victory at the court.
