March 16, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 53 suspected thugs and drug dealers in a coordinated crackdown across various parts of the state capital.
A statement issued on Sunday by the committee’s Public Relations Officer and the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, confirmed the arrests, which took place between March 13 and 14, 2025.
According to Wayya, the intelligence-led operations targeted criminal hideouts and black spots in Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’en, Dan Agundi, and surrounding areas. The raids were led by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata.
The operations led to the arrest of 53 suspected thugs and drug dealers, as well as the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances and weapons.
Among the recovered items were three parcels and 50 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, two bottles of codeine syrup, two tubes of rubber solution, one gallon of “suck and die” substance, and 105 suspected exol tablets. Authorities also seized five cutlasses, two scissors, two clubs, and a bulk of suspected charms.
Wayya further revealed that a notorious drug joint in Zanzado was raided, leading to the confiscation of a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa.
Additionally, a delivery vehicle and five cattle, believed to belong to a known drug dealer, were taken into custody during the operation.
He assured that all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
He added that the success of the two-day operation marks a significant step in the fight against thuggery and substance abuse in Kano State.
