Kano NLC Mourns 22 Deceased Athletes, Officials

June 01, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State chapter, has expressed deep shock over the death of 22 athletes and officials from the state who died in a ghastly auto accident while returning from the recent National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The unfortunate incident occured on Saturday morning near Dakatsalle town when the vehicle conveying the contingents skidded off a bridge and crashed to the ground, killing 22 of them and injuring several others.

This is contained in a statement signed by the acting Chairman of the Congress, Comrade Auwalu Mohammed Yakasai, and its acting Secretary, Hussaini Budah.

The union prayed Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and their families the fortitude and courage to bear the irreparable loss.

The union then condoled with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of the state over the tragic loss.

The State Government has already declared Monday, June 2, public holiday in sympathy with families of the deceased athletes.
